I think my ps are popping

I've been having trouble where my microphone level is jumping up too high in the mix. I think i have my 286a set alright to where it's adding some nice compression, but every so often i'm out of acceptable range....

Dbx 286a gives distorted wave form.

Recording male speaking voice. I'm using dbx 286a with garageband or with audacity (mac editing programs). With garageband the wave form, as i record, is symmetrical above and below the horizontal midline. When i stop the recording, the wave form...
